Micro Motor 6mm dia x 10mm long 6 volt with resistor and shaft adaptor
This motor is the breakthrough in micro motor technology. Although the standard micro motors have enough power to drive the small locos they cannot easily be set up to run on 12Vdc. The 6V micro motor, which has been made to order (special windings on standard motor frame), overcomes this problem. A suitable resistor can be used to drop half of the supply voltage allowing full standard 12V dc operation from the usual model railway controllers. Because of the increased operating voltage and reduced current draw the power which is dissipated in this dropper resistor is now minimal (about 0.3W) so it can easily be mounted on board very small vehicles. Surface mount style resistors can be used where space is seriously short.
Each motor is supplied with a 'standard' dropper resistor and a simple brass shaft adapter to convert the 0.8mm shaft up to 1.5mm as per standard gearbox requirements.
You may be thinking 'why not a 12V micro motor?'. The evidence is pretty clear that a 12V motor this size is more or less impossible from a technical standpoint. Its all to do with how many turns of wire you need and how thin the wire needs to be as a result!
